Finding a pediatric dentist your child actually looks forward to seeing is one of the most powerful investments you can make in their long-term health. When kids build a positive relationship with dental care early, that confidence and trust follow them throughout life, and the right practice makes all the difference in how that foundation is laid.
At Pine Tree Pediatric Dentistry, we are thrilled to bring our patient-centered, child-friendly approach to Lake Oswego. Dr. Tesha Waggoner, DMD, completed her pediatric specialty training at Oregon Health and Science University and has spent her career creating the kind of dental experience children remember for the right reasons. Our Lake Oswego families can expect the same warm, gentle care we provide at our Portland location, in a setting designed to put kids at ease from the moment they walk through the door.
Pediatric dentistry is not simply general dentistry for smaller patients. It is a specialty that blends oral health expertise with child development, behavior guidance, and a deep knowledge of how teeth grow and change from infancy through adolescence. Dr. Waggoner completed years of additional training beyond dental school, specifically focused on treating children, which means every visit is shaped by an understanding of what kids need at each stage.
For Lake Oswego families, having a dedicated pediatric practice close to home means less time in the car and more consistency in care. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children have their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth erupting or by their first birthday, and establishing that relationship early sets children up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Our team welcomes patients as young as six months old through their transition to an adult dentist.
Every appointment at Pine Tree Pediatric Dentistry begins with a focus on your child’s comfort. We understand that dental visits can feel unfamiliar to young patients, which is why we build trust before we begin treatment. We work directly with your child using age-appropriate language, gentle techniques, and a calm environment so they feel safe throughout the visit. Our dental cleanings for kids are thorough and unhurried, and we take the time to walk children through each step so there are no surprises.
For children who need additional support, we offer comfort tools including weighted blankets, low lighting, and the option to watch a movie during treatment. Our two in-office dogs, Meyers and CJ, are also a regular part of the experience and are wonderful with children of all abilities. Meyers visits in the morning, and CJ joins us in the afternoon, and their calming presence often makes a real difference for kids who are nervous.
We believe in keeping parents informed and empowered without adding unnecessary stress before appointments. Parents are encouraged to take a relaxed approach when preparing their child, rather than over-explaining what will happen. If your child has dental anxiety, we recommend showing them our social stories, a picture-based walkthrough of our office that helps children feel familiar with the environment before they arrive. Pre-visit office tours are also available so your child can see the space and meet our team in a low-pressure setting.
We also offer first visit resources to help families know what to bring and what to expect, because a well-prepared visit goes more smoothly for everyone. Our front office team is always happy to answer questions in advance.
For children who need more involved treatment or who experience significant dental anxiety, we offer sedation dentistry to help them feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the appointment. Dr. Waggoner holds hospital privileges at Providence St. Vincent Hospital and Legacy Randall Hospital for cases requiring general anesthesia, ensuring that even the most complex needs are managed safely and with the highest standard of care. Nitrous oxide is available for cooperative children who may benefit from mild relaxation during treatment, and we never recommend sedation when it is not truly needed.
Our team takes the time to discuss all options with you and answer your questions fully so you can make the best decision for your child. We tailor every care plan individually, because no two children are alike.
